Our History

Total ProtectionS is a full-service, privately held company headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina providing a comprehensive scope of high-threat/close proximity safety and security services for the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure including nuclear power, coal and other energy generating plants, new plant construction sites and certain government facilities.

As security professionals since 2002, we understand the importance of each component of the security shield - from screening and recruiting to training and deployment. Each component demands thorough understanding, excellent planning and flawless execution by smart people. That's why we've chosen to acquire the skill sets within our organization to match the needs of every aspect of the security equation. We do much more than just furnish security personnel - we also train them. The only way to penetrate that business is to hire security professionals.

Indeed, many of our specialists are from the ranks of the United States military, various law enforcement agencies, the nuclear security industry and government security services. Regardless, all potential candidates are screened by a very stringent, behavioral-based hiring process to ensure they meet and exceed the standards of our clients and possess the principles and values of our company.

Furthermore, building on our credibility and expertise in the nuclear industry and government sector and leveraging our existing channel contacts, we have begun diversifying our product and service offerings to include training and technology.

The nuclear power industry is undergoing rapid change. As security and operations personnel age and retire, the industry is losing critical institutional knowledge. Moreover, new regulations and public policies have increased the demand for workers with new skills sets and who can think in unconventional ways. The security demands of the 21st century require continuous learning, situational leadership skills, and the ability to adapt to regulatory and environmental change.

Since 9/11, the industry has worked tirelessly to design and implement new measures to augment security at the nation's 65 nuclear power plants. However, employee discipline, low-morale, leadership, and management issues continue to challenge the industry. Furthermore, the U.S is becoming more diverse. Yet, the industry lags behind in the recruitment of women and minorities into the field. The underutilization of talent and human capital may put the industry at a competitive disadvantage in the future.

To address these challenges, Nuclear Protection Academy (NuclearPro) seeks to transform the industry by providing innovative training and development solutions to new and existing nuclear security and operations personnel. Simply stated the purpose of the academy is to raise the standards, effectiveness, and "know how" of the security and protection workforce in the nuclear industry.

Phrantceena T. Thate is Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TPS, the nation's first Woman and Minority Owned Business enterprise focused exclusively on critical assets and infrastructure.

Ms. Thate has been serving the Carolinas since 1986 in the areas of recruitment and staffing, training and development, consulting and diversity programs, nuclear and corporate safety and security, security guard and patrol services, investigations, and safety and security systems. During this time, she has been deeply involved in all operational, contract, and research/development aspects of the industry.

In 2005, Ms. Thate was appointed to the North Carolina Commission on Workforce Development by North Carolina Governor Michael Easley.

In 2009, Ms. Thate was again appointed to the North Carolina Commission on Workforce Development by North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue.

Total ProtectionS is built on the assumption that safety and security-related services for the nuclear industry and certain Government installations is like legal advice or accounting, in that it is not inherently a do-it-yourself prospect, and requires outside expertise to procure and implement.

We have developed a system for offering many different types of safety and security-related services that are exclusively tailored to fit the needs and resources of the nuclear industry as well as certain government installations.
